Family Fall Activities Near Metro Atlanta SR Homes Communities

SR Homes Communities Near Family Fall Activities

Cooler weather is finally in the air, and what better way to celebrate the new season than by getting out and enjoying some family fall activities? From pumpkin patches, apple orchards and hiking trails, several SR Homes communities are convenient, if not a short drive away, from plenty of popular destinations.

Corn Mazes + Pumpkin Patches

Go ahead and dive into the autumn spirit by getting lost in a corn maze and visiting a pumpkin patch. North Georgia offers plenty of options including pumpkins galore, hayrides, farm animals and harvest goodies at Kinsey Family Farm in Gainesville, as well as Uncle Shuck’s in Dawsonville featuring Georgia’s longest-operating corn maze. Celebrating its 20th consecutive season in 2021, Uncle Shuck’s features a 15-acre corn maze and pumpkin patch, as well as tons of farm-inspired activities for the whole family including a kids’ maze, pick-your-own pumpkins, a jumping pillow, tire mountain and gem mining.

Apple Orchards

There’s a reason Ellijay is dubbed Georgia’s Apple Capital – and fall is prime picking season for this popular fruit. From Red Apple Barn in Ellijay all the way up to Mercier Orchards in Blue Ridge, several orchards allow visitors to tour and pick their own apples in addition to purchasing homemade treats. Start the day with a fresh-made apple fritter at Mercier Orchards, a fourth-generation family- and veteran-owned and operated apple orchard. The market and bakery are open daily and feature a wide array of fruit, fresh-baked treats, cider and specialty items.

Nearby in Ellijay, Red Apple Barn features pick-your-own apples and a pumpkin patch on the weekends, and the market is open daily.

Fall Hikes

Georgia is a haven for nature lovers, especially during the fall. Sawnee Mountain Preserve in Cumming offers miles of scenic mountain trails along the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains, and the top of the trail system features a spectacular view of fall foliage on the canopies below from the Indian Seats rock formation. Other fall hiking destinations include the Harris Shoals Park in Watkinsville, as well as Chattahoochee Nature Center and Vickery Creek Waterfall in Roswell. Hit the trails and check out the autumn scenery in Georgia for yourself.

Fall festival season may be different this year, but many vendors and attractions have made adjustments to safely remain open. Stone Mountain Park is also hosting its award-winning Pumpkin Festival where attendees can enjoy special fall attractions by day and not-so-spooky outdoor experiences by night. For more fall-inspired fun, mark your calendars for the annual Georgia Apple Festival taking place the second and third weekends of October. Festivities include music, car shows, entertainment and specialty products from more than 300 vendors.

Thrill-seekers will not want to miss the two “haunts” at Netherworld Haunted House this year for its 25th Season of Screams: RISE OF THE NETHERSPAWN and RETURN TO PLANET X IN 3D, as well as four high-adrenaline Escape Games. Escape the NetherWorld will operate every day and night the haunt is open during the Halloween season. Families looking for a fun Halloween alternative will enjoy the Halloween Hike at the Chattahoochee Nature Center for a guided nighttime trek through the forest. Online ticket sales open October 8, and tickets must be purchased online in advance.
